Swedish Holiday
Are you planning to stay a few days in Sweden?
As an international wedding can easily be turned into a holiday, we wanted to make some suggestions from our local knowledge. Sweden is a hidden gem with the most stunning natural places and beautiful cities. At this point in the summer, we have extended daylight until late at night and early in the morning. We consider Sweden to be a fairy land in the summer months. Here are some things you can do from Stockholm and beyond.
Stockholm Archipelago
This is truly a hidden gem, known only really by the Swedes. Take a scenic ferry from the city into one of the thousands of islands in the Stockholm Archipelago. It is one of our favourite places in the world. You need to book in advance because the Swedes spend their summers there and are very organised. Think lounging on warm rocks on a tiny island, surrounded by trees and the sea. Sun, sea and nature in fairy land paradise, you can also do a day trip to Grindar or one of the closer islands.
Go North For Midnight Sun
Going into the Arctic Circle means you will catch the midnight sun as you will be in Sweden around mid-summer. If you are planning a longer trip to Sweden then maybe consider going north and seeing the day that never gets dark! You can go by train or by car, just remember bug spray as mosquitos are abundant in the north.
Yasuragi Spa
Only a taxi ride from the centre of Stockholm is the wonderful Yasuragi. A Japanese day spa with hot springs, right by the water. Enjoy many kinds of saunas, steam rooms, massage, treatments and wellness activities. Plus a lovely Japanese dinner or lunch. You also have the option to stay overnight.

Sacred Sites & Viking History
Sweden is laced with beautiful sacred sites, rune stones, wells and Viking burial grounds. If you are a nerd like Alice then maybe you will want to see some. Locally in Stockholm you can go to the Viking island Birka, which was the biggest artisan trading island is Stockholm. Or you might want to visit Gamla Uppsala, the famous old pagan temple grounds of Norse culture which is a train ride away.
Rosendals
Walkable from the centre of Stockholm City, this greenhouse cafe, orchard and garden is an old beloved favourite of ours. Stop by before or after the wedding for an incredible assortment of lunch, cakes and goodies! Eat your lunch in the apple orchard and pick your own flowers in the meadows afterwards. This place is heaven.
Gotland
This beautiful island is on our bucket list, if you have longer in Sweden and you want to check out somewhere outside Stockholm then we recommend Gotland for its stunning beaches, beautiful villages and wonderful food! You can fly or get the boat from Stockholm.
